Cadeler and Synera Renewable Energy Join Forces for Formosa 4 Wind Farm Project

Cadeler has just signed a long-term partnership agreement with Synera Renewable Energy (SRE)! Collectively, they will oversee the transportation and installation of wind turbines at the Formosa 4 offshore wind farm, located 18 to 20 kilometers off the coast of Miaoli County, Taiwan. This massive undertaking will cover 58 square kilometers. Together with its other efforts, it aims to make a big ripple effect on the region’s renewable energy landscape.

Once finished, the project will install 35 Siemens Gamesa 14 MW wind turbines. Unlike most other commercial offshore turbines, these turbines will be installed at water depths of 57-64m. The first transportation and installation operations are currently scheduled to begin in March 2028. They are only scheduled to be in session for around 150 days. Cadeler will deploy its next-generation, X-Class, wind turbine installation vessels for the Seagreen project. This decision ensures quality and reliability from end to end.

Strategic Partnership and Operational Support

SRE is nearly finished with the turbine installation. They awarded a 15-year service operations vessel (SOV) contract to Dong Fang Offshore (DFO) to support the eventual operations and maintenance of the entire asset fleet, first with Formosa 4. The new partnership with DFO makes available a tailor-built, Taiwan-flagged SOV. This vessel is purpose-built to flourish in Taiwan’s rich, swirling seas. This is one of the first vessels that will be built to the rigorous European standards while still catering to SRE’s highly specialized operational needs.

Cadeler CEO Mikkel Gleerup said the project was one of the cornerstones of the company’s strategic focus on the Asia-Pacific region.

“This milestone project further anchors Cadeler’s strategic presence in the Asia-Pacific region. With the support of our team based in Taipei, we are steadily building up our APAC presence and pipeline, with two vessels currently operating contracts in the region. With an M-class vessel, we are bringing best-in-class technology to Taiwan’s shores, building a bridge between continents and the infrastructure for a cleaner tomorrow.” – Mikkel Gleerup, Cadeler CEO.

Financial Implications and Regional Impact

Cadeler anticipates a revenue of between €70 and €80 million from this contract. This partnership illustrates how financially powerful it is. This commitment to accelerate offshore wind projects throughout the Asia-Pacific region is a key tenet of Cadeler’s long-term strategy. Operating from a newly opened local office in Taipei, Cadeler intends to strengthen its footprint and operational setup on the Taiwanese market.

Together with the Formosa 4 project, this serves as a key turning point towards building renewable energy infrastructure in Taiwan. The demand for sustainable, renewable energy sources has never been higher. This effort will be a critical component of State’s energy needs and contribute to environmental stewardship initiatives.
