Avangrid Unveils Oregon Trail Solar Project to Power Amazon Data Centers

Avangrid has also formally opened its Oregon Trail Solar Project. This big-time renewable energy project is located in Gilliam County, Oregon. This project, featuring over 100,000 solar panels, is designed to generate 57 megawatts of direct current (MW DC) electricity, which will be enough to power approximately 10,000 homes annually. Toto Solar Facility The Toto solar facility, beginning operations in 2027. It intends to provide renewable energy to Amazon’s data centers in the area.

Avangrid and Amazon jointly invested in the Oregon Trail Solar Project. This agreement represents their second clean energy purchase in the Pacific Northwest. This partnership is another example of both companies’ strong commitment to sustainability and the growth of clean, renewable energy resources. Avangrid has been a key player in Oregon’s energy landscape since 2001, managing a total capacity of 2.5 gigawatts across the state.

Economic Impact and Job Creation

The construction phase of the Oregon Trail Solar Project will create at least 200 jobs. Ultimately, a huge number of these positions will be filled by local union labor. This investment not only creates new opportunity for job seekers, it invests financially and economically into the local community.

Avangrid anticipates the project will earn at least $6 million in new revenue over its lifetime. This would be funded by property taxes and payments in lieu of taxes. These are important dollars that will go directly to improving public services, like our schools, and further developing infrastructure in Gilliam County.

“Oregon Trail Solar builds on our strong presence in Oregon and deep partnership with Amazon, and we’re proud to help power the future with projects that bring lasting economic benefits to local communities, bolster our nation’s energy independence, and maximize energy production.” – Jose Antonio Miranda

Commitment to Renewable Energy
