Adani Power put out a release trumpeting the milestone! The company experienced a 20.7% increase in its consolidated power sales volume for FY 2024/25. For 2023, the company posted a large quarterly power sales volume of 95.9 billion units. This unprecedented jump further exemplifies the robust demand for electricity and reflects their improved operational prowess. Sales are through the roof! This increase is due to the increasing need for electricity as the delta enjoys its growth of economic recovery and new infrastructure.
On the last trading day of the month, April 30, 2025, Adani Power revealed its power generation numbers. They achieved an extraordinary 19.5% boost in output, reaching 102.2 billion units for that fiscal year. This marks an improvement from the previous year’s generation of 85.5 billion units, showcasing the company’s commitment to expanding its operational efficiency and meeting rising energy demands.
In order to expand its capacity significantly, Adani Power has taken various strategic moves. The company won a competitive contract to provide low-cost power of 1,500 megawatts to the state of Uttar Pradesh. Under the terms of this contract, we will compensate this loss by building a brand new thermal power complex. It boasts a remarkable nameplate capacity of 1,600 MW, consisting of two 800 MW units. The project is set to be established in Uttar Pradesh and was acquired through a competitive bidding process that saw participation from seven companies.
The Uttar Pradesh cabinet has recently given the nod for procurement of power from this yet to be built facility. Uttar Pradesh Minister of Energy AK Sharma underscored the importance of this contract, emphasizing that
“We decided to purchase a total of 1500 MW (ex-bus) power from a 2×800 MW (1600 MW) thermal power project based on competitive bidding. Under this, seven companies came forward and participated in the bidding processes.”
It is not surprising that Adani Power won that contract at the extremely low rate of Rs 5.383/unit. This recent win illustrates how well positioned Schneider is in today’s energy market.
Adani Power’s tender for this project was released in October 2024, reflecting the company’s proactive approach to expanding its energy footprint in one of India’s most populous states. Developing the new thermal power plant successfully will be critical to meeting Uttar Pradesh’s electric needs. Over the last few decades, the state has felt an increasing demand for an uninterrupted power supply.
