ACCIONA Energía — a global leader in renewable energy — has taken a very big step. They’ve completed on the sale of a 49% interest in their extremely photogenic US 1.3GW PV portfolio and have just completed on divesting their whole ownership of two wind farms in Mexico. This strategic move, expected to generate approximately $1 billion (€855 million), will solidify the company’s position in the renewable energy sector while maintaining its controlling interest.
The pact allows ACCIONA Energía to maintain a 51% controlling share of its U.S. solar portfolio. This allows them to better regulate the activities and public use of all of these various facilities. That transaction involves four solar plants across Texas, Illinois, and Ohio. These plants are Tailed Hawk at 458 MWp, Fort Bend Solar at 316 MWp, High Point Solar Farm at 127 MWp and Union Solar at 415 MWp. The Mexican component involves the complete divestiture of the El Cortijo (183MW) and Santa Cruz (138MW) wind farms, both located in Reynosa, Tamaulipas.
Transaction Details and Future Prospects
The sale is expected to close in early 2026. This key milestone will further accelerate the corporation’s rapidly growing ACCIONA Energía division, as it expands in renewable energy markets across the globe. The company is consistently selling close to 1.7GW of renewable capacity in markets such as Spain, South Africa, Peru and Costa Rica. It’s an inspiring effort to be sure, totaling around €2.4 billion. This trend of divestment fits well with ACCIONA Energía’s strategy to optimize its asset portfolio, while paying for the development of new projects.
With the consistent efforts of ACCIONA Energía, achieving progress in sustainability is undoubtedly high. They are in the process of building a 1GWh battery energy storage system at their Malgarida photovoltaic complex located within the Atacama Desert of Chile. This project has a currently scheduled start of commissioning in early 2027. It hopes to increase energy storage capacity in a region with abundant solar power potential.
Recognition and Current Capacity
With these new developments, ACCIONA Energía is on its way to achieve even greater milestones in the renewable energy industry. At the same time, Hover Energy’s accomplishments have been honored with three 2025 Power Technology Excellence Awards. This acknowledgment highlights the advancements made within the industry and underscores the collaborative efforts of various entities in promoting renewable technologies.
As of June 2025, ACCIONA Energía had reached an installed capacity of 15.1GW, with a consolidated capacity of 13.4GW. These numbers demonstrate the firm’s admirable resolve to grow its clean energy program. We maintain demanding operational standards and provide innovative solutions.
