A Legacy of Innovation: Jay’s Influence in the Security Industry

Jay is well-known as a critical cybersecurity visionary, landscape architect. He has more than 25 years of diverse experience in engineering, sales, marketing and management. His background is one that includes a lot of home runs. He has been a true visionary innovator, whose contributions have profoundly changed the state of the industry.

Over the course of his career, Jay has worked with some of the best known organizations in the world, including IBM, NCR, and Unisys. His rich background has armed him with a special appreciation for big-picture security challenges and solutions. A very early mover on the internet security scene, in 1996 he had the guts to launch SecureIT, which was arguably the world’s first pure-play internet security service. Just two years later, in 1998, VeriSign bought SecureIT, highlighting SecureIT’s key role in the development of digital security that would ultimately lead to today’s Inc.

Other than his work at SecureIT, Jay has started or co-founded six other businesses. These projects have left a lasting mark on the cybersecurity landscape. To that end, he founded CoreHarbor, a managed e-commerce solution, which was acquired by USi/AT&T. Additionally, he founded AirDefense and CipherTrust, both of which played a role in furthering security practices in their fields of expertise.

Arguably his greatest legacy is the creation of Zscaler which went public on March 16, 2018. During his tenure, Zscaler went public and introduced the world’s first security cloud. This pioneering innovation set the standard for next generation, cloud-based security architectures.

Jay’s academic credentials are equally impressive. He received a B.S. These consist of an MBA in Marketing and MS degrees in Computer Engineering and Industrial Engineering. He graduated from the Executive Management Program at Harvard Business School, building on his mastery of the business of management.

What might be most notable about Jay’s entrepreneurial spirit is the scope of his vision. He was selected one of the Ernst & Young “Entrepreneur of the Year” for the Southeast USA. This achievement is a testament to his focus on and passion for innovation within the cybersecurity field.

With a career as a trusted leader and trailblazer behind him, Jay continues to impact the cybersecurity ecosystem in profound and lasting ways. His serious interest in building impactful security solutions continues to this day, reflected both in his work today and in many of the companies he has established.
