Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, has big development plans! To further develop their Community Notes feature, Twitter is rolling out a new pilot test to surface the most popular Community Notes written by users with opposing viewpoints. This creative approach aims to create understanding and build connections across deep divides on some of our most polarizing issues.
Community Notes, a crowdsourced fact-checking system, will now enable a subset of contributors to rate posts based on questions reflecting their preferences. Contributors will be prompted to indicate why they either like or dislike a specific post, providing valuable insights into public sentiment. The initiative is a huge user experience shift in how people will interact with content on the platform.
The Community Notes X account has confirmed that contributors will receive notifications when a post begins attracting attention through Likes. This new callout feature really rounds out our pilot test. It hopes to provide more insight into how users interact with and what they’re looking for from the community.

The Community Notes X account stated, “People often feel the world is divided, yet Community Notes shows people can agree, even on contentious topics. This experimental new feature seeks to uncover ideas, insights, and opinions that bridge perspectives.”
The spirit of this pilot test underscores X’s broader mission — to make the platform a more welcoming place for open discourse. The Community Notes team added, “Following the path we used to develop Community Notes, we’re building in public with a small pilot so that this concept can be shaped by the people. We look forward to learning and iterating with you all as we do with Community Notes every day.”
As this initial pilot test progresses, X wants to hear back from users to improve and adjust the feature according to how people use it — or don’t. The platform focuses on inclusive narratives to create healing and restorative space needed for community building. This feature allows friends to connect in a richer, more intentional way.
