TikTok Expands Music Streaming Options by Adding YouTube Music

With this change, TikTok has taken the most effective and impactful action to protect its young users. Today, it’s easier than ever for users to save songs they find in video snippets. In February 2024, the tech-integrated community engagement platform announced worldwide on their popular social media platform. It rapidly gained availability in more than 160 countries, increasing its global reach. This new update allows users to save their favorite StoryTracks straight into their preferred music streaming service. Now, playing music outside of the app is faster and more convenient than ever!

This expanded functionality was first rolled out by TikTok in November 2023, specifically to users in the U.S. and the U.K. When the feature first launched, it was limited to only a few major platforms, like Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. With this recent update TikTok has officially loaded YouTube Music onto its growing basketful of music streaming service eggs. This frees up listeners from needing to plan for every music taste in their lives.

It makes picking a favorite music streaming service a pretty simple task, as their option would be set as the default for saving songs. This can be changed at any time through the “Music” menu found in the Settings tab of the app. If you want to save a track from a video, just click the green Add Song button under the clip description, next to the track name. Then, click YouTube Music from the widget options.

Ivan Mehta, a tech journalist from India and frequent TechCrunch contributor, was the first to highlight this upgrade. He thinks it’s reflective of TikTok’s deep commitment to integrating social media and music consumption. His work has appeared in major outlets such as Huffington Post and The Next Web.

“Add to Music App continues to deliver real results for the music industry, with hundreds of millions of track saves translating into billions of streams on music streaming services.” – Tracy Gardner, TikTok’s Global Head of Music Business Development.

The growing shift to TikTok for discovering and sharing music This development in tandem with the incorporation of these diverse services such as YouTube Music can really cement TikTok’s stance as one of the premier platforms in the entertainment and music ecosystems. Whether it’s related content or even just the effortless transition from video clips to music streaming that allures them. This newfound engagement will be good for both creators and the overall music industry.

As more users flock to TikTok for music discovery and sharing, the integration of services like YouTube Music may further solidify TikTok’s position as a leading platform in the entertainment and music landscape. The seamless transition from video clip to music streaming may encourage additional engagement among users, ultimately benefiting both creators and the music industry at large.
