TechCrunch Reporter Aisha Malik Shares Insights on Google’s AI Innovations

Aisha is a consumer news reporter at TechCrunch. An avid technophile, she’s particularly attuned to the rapid changes in technology, particularly artificial intelligence. Coming on board at TechCrunch in 2021, she has leveraged her previous experience as a reporter and editor to cast a bigger spotlight on the most impactful technology industry. Malik received her honours bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto. He is also a proud alumnus of the master’s program in journalism at Western University.

Last week, Google announced its new AI Mode. This creative new feature focuses on providing natural interactions with the user, drawing from both Gmail and Photos to provide contextual responses. This pioneering feature intends to provide a smarter, more personalized experience for users, simplifying everyday tasks and increasing productivity.

The AI Mode’s abilities go far beyond just answering simple questions. Robby Stein, a spokesperson for the project, describes the advantages Personal Intelligence could offer to shoppers. He says AI Mode considers the types of products you buy and where you shop. It allows the AI to take into account a user’s shopping behavior to provide personalized recommendations that suit their preferences.

Whether the user is planning a trip and wants to buy a new coat, that’s when AI Mode kicks in. It seamlessly connects and captures all the relevant information from their Gmail account, including flight confirmations. Whether you’re traveling and looking for a high-quality travel coat, or in search of something new, AI Mode will assist you! It’ll proactively take into account your brand preferences and scan your Gmail for flight information like where you’re going and when, e.g. Chicago in March. Then you’ll receive tailored recommendations for windproof, multifunctional outerwear appropriate to the climate and your desired aesthetic,” Stein continued. This powerful feature works behind the scenes just like a personal shopper would—someone who knows a user’s travel plans and travel style.

Google’s AI Mode has some pretty advanced features. Its solution offers recommendations that are contextually appropriate and effortlessly fit within users’ lifestyles. Stein illustrated this perfectly when he stated, “With Personal Intelligence, recommendations will not only be more aligned with your interests—but they’ll integrate seamlessly into your life.”
