TechCrunch Reporter Aisha Malik Highlights New Features for TikTok Creators

Aisha Malik, a consumer news reporter at TechCrunch, recently detailed the latest updates introduced by TikTok aimed at enhancing user experience for creators. These new features, like Creator Chat Rooms and Content Check Lite, aim to maximize positive use of the platforms while counteracting potential harm, particularly to younger audiences.

Malik has an honours bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto and a master’s in journalism from Western University. With this extensive educational background, he has a unique understanding of how and why the tech industry should engage with K-12 education. Prior to making the jump to TechCrunch in 2021, she cut her teeth as a telecom reporter at MobileSyrup. There, she learned a diverse communications skill set while developing niche expertise in digital communications.

One of the most exciting new features for TikTok content creators are the Creator Chat Rooms. These unique chat rooms are only accessible to those who fit certain criteria. Creators are required to be at least 18 years old and have no less than 5,000 followers. On top of that, creators need to belong to a Subscription or Live Fan Club in order to use this feature. This means only the most well-known creators should attempt to conduct a regular conversation with their subscribers in such a controlled way.

With each chat room limited to 300 people, the conversations are much more personal. TikTok’s chatroom platform is an innovative way for creators to host productive discussions, with as many as 20 separate chats happening at once. Creators can preemptively cut down on confusion by creating automated responses for common questions. Because of one-tap quick replies, they are able to further spread the word with a single tap of their finger!

In an effort to maintain content quality and visibility on the platform, TikTok has rolled out the Content Check Lite feature. This new tool lets you see if your content has a chance of showing up in the For You feed. This feature is important for making the content accessible to more audiences. TikTok is committed to doing everything possible to provide a safe platform for our users. This newest change is all about keeping 16-17 year-olds safe.

Teens that use the platform will make the most of their experience due to added transparency around their account settings. This will allow creators to see if downloads are enabled for their content. Additionally, they can view whether or not their list of who they are following is public to other users. These actions are an important step toward increasing user control and privacy on the social media platform.

In the near future, we’re excited to return to San Francisco from October 27-29, 2025 for TechCrunch’s hometown agenda-setting event. The event will feature the latest trends in technology and innovation. It will be a vibrant forum for business leaders and transportation innovators to come together, connect and collaborate on shared insights. Malik’s reporting continues to shed light on significant developments in the tech world, ensuring that readers stay informed about the latest changes affecting digital communication.
