Speechify Unveils Dictation Tool Aiming for Voice Integration in Apps

As the first democratized dictation tool that works across English language voice typing, Speechify is loaded with convenient features. This cutting-edge accessibility feature works magically within the extremely popular applications of Gmail and Google Docs. It’s a huge leap forward in increasing user productivity with their voice technology.

The dictation tool does face challenges. Users have given feedback about being unable to initiate voice dictation on various sites, including those hosted on WordPress. Of note, Speechify’s speech-to-text tool has a much higher word error rate than competitors, including Wispr Flow, Willow, and Monologue. These questions point to the fact that much is still up in the air as the company works out its technology and processes.

Speechify’s voice assistant does not function in browsers with sidebar assistants (like Chrome and Edge). This includes well-used tools such as OpenAI’s Atlas and Perplexity’s Coment. This limitation is understandably a time-suck and user experience killer for anyone who depends on multiple tools to accomplish their work.

Speechify is on a mission to make it more intelligent. It plans to slowly rollout voice typing and a voice assistant to each of its desktop and mobile apps. This roadmap highlights big, bold, audacious stuff. Users will be able to use a phone call to create appointments and wait on hold when contacting customer service. In our AI, users can ask Speechify specific questions about the contents of websites. They may, for instance, ask to answer “what are the three most important points.”

The company seems hell-bent on taking as much of that market as it can. They’re targeting the users who want voice as their primary interface to use AI apps. Rohan Pavuluri, chief business officer at Speechify underscored this trend by saying,

“We believe that chat will always be the default user experience in ChatGPT and Gemini when you open the apps. That’s what their users expect. Voice will always be secondary – and in many cases, an afterthought for ChatGPT and Gemini. We know from several years of building Speechify that there’s a large portion of the market, which includes our users, who want voice as the primary, default setting every time they open an app and talk to AI.” – Rohan Pavuluri

The recent explosion of voice detection tools is just one sign that the world is hungry for this technology. In just the last year, speech recognition models have achieved astonishing breakthroughs. These advancements are helping tools like Speechify grow and improve every day.

Speechify is looking forward to showing off these innovations at the TC Disrupt event in San Francisco on October 13-15, 2026. This opportunity provides the company with a unique opportunity to engage directly with users and industry experts. It proves their determination to push the boundaries with voice technology.
