In the midst of a busy weekend, Slate Auto celebrated a huge milestone. They’ve already blown past 100,000 refundable reservations for their forthcoming electric truck! The announcement comes less than three weeks after the company officially launched its vehicle at an industry showcase in Los Angeles, California. This accomplishment comes on the heels of their development from stealth mode.
The huge influx of reservations underlines the pent-up demand for Slate’s offering. This electric truck comes in under $20,000 after applying the $7,500 federal EV tax credit. It aims to reach all types of customers looking for the most affordable electric vehicle choices as their market. Prospective buyers can place a deposit in line to reserve priority for purchase by paying a $50 refundable reservation fee.
Jeremy Snyder, Slate’s Chief Commercial Officer, expressed his gratitude for the enthusiastic response received since the brand’s launch and the introduction of the truck. He stated, “We are truly humbled by America’s response to Slate’s brand launch and the launch of our truck.”
The startup eventually aims to produce its trucks at a former commercial printing press plant in Warsaw, Indiana. The facility is expected to be producing up to 150,000 vehicles by the end of 2027. Slate’s new, ambitious plan will help put Slate at the center of the growing electric vehicle market. It’s a key piece of Slate’s overall plan for long-term viability.
The launch event in Los Angeles garnered a lot of media attention and served as a watershed moment in Slate’s history. With the truck production first reported by TechCrunch, the company’s swift rise from obscurity to prominence has captured the interest of both potential customers and industry observers.
Along with the short-term victory in making reservations a success, Snyder seemed very bullish on the company’s long term plans. “We are excited for what the future holds,” he added.
