Salesforce Completes Acquisition of Informatica for $8 Billion

Informatica was acquired for $7.1 billion market capital at the time of his acquisition. The tech company is known for their innovative data integration and management solutions. The initial speculation of the merger did already send stocks skyrocketing for both companies nearly a year ago. With this strategic play, Salesforce seems intent on using Informatica’s experience to start to play catch-up with their fellow cloud client base.

Salesforce’s general manager, Steve Fisher, emphasized the importance of data security in today’s digital landscape. In a press release regarding the acquisition, he stated, “Data security has never been more critical, and Own’s proven expertise and products will enhance our ability to offer robust data protection and management solutions to our customers.”

The agreement comes just months after Salesforce’s September acquisition of Own Company for $1.9 billion in cash. This previous acquisition paved the way for Salesforce to double down on its data capabilities even more recently. With both Informatica and Own Company under its umbrella, Salesforce can now provide more comprehensive solutions that address the evolving needs of businesses.

Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce, took to Twitter to celebrate the addition of Informatica to their already-acquired product suite. He remarked, “Together, we’ll supercharge Agentforce, Data Cloud, Tableau, MuleSoft, and Customer 360, enabling autonomous agents to act with intelligence, context, and confidence across every enterprise.”

Salesforce’s data acquisition spree, in particular its strategic pivot to building out its data competencies, shows a strong trend across the tech industry. As companies make more and more decisions based on data, the need for solid data management solutions only increases.
