Raj Aggarwal Departs AWS to Launch New Venture

Raj Aggarwal has announced his departure from Amazon Web Services (AWS) after nearly three years as the General Manager of Generative AI and Revenue Acceleration. Aggarwal, who joined AWS in 2022, shared the news in a LinkedIn post, revealing plans to "return to his roots" by launching a new company. During his tenure, he played a significant role in AWS's push into generative AI, contributing to foundational projects such as the AI models, the Bedrock AI development platform, and Amazon's business-focused generative AI assistant, Amazon Q.

Before his role at AWS, Aggarwal was the head of product and growth in the R&D group at Snap. His journey into AI and technology entrepreneurship began with the founding of Demand Sage in 2018, an AI-driven sales analytics platform. Demand Sage successfully raised $3 million in venture capital before being acquired by Snap in April 2021. Post-acquisition, Aggarwal remained with Snap until his eventual move to AWS.

Aggarwal's entrepreneurial spirit was evident even earlier in his career when he founded Localytics in 2009. The company, which raised more than $69 million in venture funding, focused on mobile app analytics and marketing. Localytics was eventually acquired by Upland BlueVenn in 2020. Aggarwal left Localytics in 2017 to pursue other ventures.

In his LinkedIn announcement, Aggarwal reflected on his contributions at AWS:

"I'm proud of the pioneering work our team did in generative AI from its earliest days."

He highlighted the impact of his team's efforts on generative AI products:

"We built what might be the world's first large-scale generative AI products — launched to tens of thousands of sellers, used hundreds of thousands of times, driving a 4.9% increase in pipeline generation."

Aggarwal's departure marks a significant transition in his career, as he prepares to embark on a new entrepreneurial venture. His extensive experience in AI, product growth, and revenue strategies will undoubtedly influence his upcoming endeavors.
