PayPal has partnered with OpenAI to transform shopping experiences in ChatGPT. This innovative collaboration will roll out in 2026! This partnership means that we’re going to bring PayPal’s payment solutions right into the AI platform – seamlessly. Looking ahead, users will be able to complete entire purchases without even exiting the chat interface. Pursuing the initiative is a continued move by PayPal to establish itself as a central payments partner in the future of commerce powered by AI.
Alex Chriss, president and CEO of PayPal, based in India, spotlighted the importance of this pact. “Hundreds of millions of people turn to ChatGPT each week for help with everyday tasks, including finding products they love, and over 400 million use PayPal to shop,” he stated. By combining PayPal’s “Instant Checkout” feature with OpenAI’s capabilities, users will be able to confirm their orders, shipping, and payment details seamlessly.
Beyond its previously announced collaboration with OpenAI, PayPal has been ahead of the game in embedding its services within other AI-powered apps. Just this January, the company announced a collaboration with Perplexity. Through this collaboration, users will be able to check out seamlessly across the AI-powered search and discovery tool. Just last month in September, PayPal took on Google’s Agent Payments Protocol to strengthen its footprint inside of Google products. This position makes sense when you consider the growing trend of agent-driven commerce, where digital assistants like Siri and Alexa handle our shopping experiences for us.
The integration scheduled to launch in 2026 will make it possible for merchants leveraging PayPal products to showcase their wares on ChatGPT. The first categories included in this rollout will be apparel, fashion, beauty, home improvement and electronics. Building upon this first step, the organization’s broader strategy is to change how consumers engage with and shop for products via conversational AI.
“By partnering with OpenAI and adopting the Agentic Commerce Protocol, PayPal will power payments and commerce experiences that help people go from chat to checkout in just a few taps for our joint customer bases,” Chriss added. This strategy is designed to speed the customer journey while increasing engagement through simpler, more intuitive transactions.
The press release about this exciting new partnership was announced at the SF-BNFTC event that took place in San Francisco from October 27-29, 2025. PayPal is certainly leading the charge and creativity in getting them on track and transforming their services for a new era. Together, this partnership is a big step forward in combining payment solutions with groundbreaking AI technology.
