OpenAI, for one, has done a lot this year to bolster its AI prowess. It has signed non-binding letters of intent with global tech juggernauts Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. This alliance comes on the heels of a landmark Future Mobility conference held in Seoul. In attendance were OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, Samsung’s Executive Chairman Jay Y. Lee, and SK Chairman Chey Tae-won. The partnership will help support OpenAI’s Stargate AI infrastructure project.
Additionally, OpenAI’s Stargate project, which enables AI to build AI, will be powered by DRAM wafers produced by Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. Together with this collaboration, this work is critical in expanding the organization’s computing capacity to advance AI applications. OpenAI teamed up with two of the world’s leading manufacturers of memory chips. This move emphasizes its strategic focus on increasing computational resources at a time when the sector is experiencing a historic influx of investment.
OpenAI’s recent moves take place in a context of massive investments across the AI compute ecosystem. Nvidia’s commitment to OpenAI has already been spectacularly large, pledging up to $100 billion. It is this investment that will ultimately provide access to more than 10 gigawatts of compute capacity, fueled by its innovative AI training systems. Oracle has made an explicit commitment to provide $300 billion worth of compute capacity over the next five years. This pledge will provide an unprecedented boost to OpenAI’s infrastructure.
Among other indications, OpenAI recently announced a partnership with Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix to establish data centers in South Korea. These centers will be important in helping to stand up the Stargate project. These super computers are likely going to be necessary to overcome the massive scale of processing needs that will be required for frontier AI R and D.
OpenAI has placed itself at the head of AI trailblazers. As such, investors are hungry to get in on the burgeoning demand for AI technologies. The organization’s logo, marked by spinning rainbow colors, represents the organization’s creative philosophy to adopting a different approach within the tech world.
OpenAI is dedicated to continue growing its compute capacity in a robust and sustainable way as the landscape continues to evolve. Save the date! The Techcrunch Disrupt 2025 event is scheduled for October 27-29, 2025 in San Francisco. Look for it to feature big news about OpenAI’s programs, competitions and collaborations!
