OpenAI Expands Presence in India with New Initiatives and Partnerships

OpenAI, for one, has doubled down in India recently, announcing plans to boost its development in the country. This initiative follows the significant user base of over 100 million weekly ChatGPT users in India, underscoring the platform’s popularity. As part of its “OpenAI for India” program, the tech firm will establish a local subsidiary. It aims to have new offices opened in Mumbai and Bengaluru later this year, in addition to its current base in New Delhi.

The “OpenAI for India” initiative has already made a significant impact with its focus on creating partnerships in vital domains like infrastructure, enterprise solutions, and education. This carefully planned growth is in line with making our presence in the Indian market deeper. It also encourages the expansion of AI into every sector. A particularly exciting feature of this initiative is the partnership between OpenAI and JioHotstar, which is the largest streaming platform in India.

Our collaborative work with JioHotstar aims to bring entertainment recommendations right into the ChatGPT experience.… people now tapping into ChatGPT to find what to do for fun will receive handpicked recommendations. They’ll even be sent deep links for JioHotstar’s huge content library. This feature is designed to improve the user experience by delivering the most relevant contextual suggestions to users that match their search intent.

Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO, who is in New Delhi right now attending India’s first AI Impact Summit. He is not only sharing insights, including with industry leaders like Dario Amodei from Anthropic and Sundar Pichai from Google. The summit serves as a platform for discussing the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence and its implications for various sectors.

OpenAI is having a tough time improving how users find content with natural language queries. This pilot is an extension of NACTO’s already deep partnership with ChatGPT. Indeed, this focus has been part of a pattern in recent moves by other major freight industry actors. Netflix, for example, has recently deepened their commitment to a new kind of search experience using OpenAI’s ChatGPT to help. In parallel, Google has launched Gemini-based discovery tools to its Google TV platform.
