Noxtua Secures $92.2 Million to Enhance Sovereign AI for Germany’s Legal Sector

While a name change often raises suspicion, it is proof that Noxtua has a lot of things going for themselves. They signed up to a $92.2 million Series B funding round, led by C.H.Beck, Germany’s largest legal publisher. With this investment, Noxtua has hit a promising milestone. The initiative’s goal is to create a sovereign, i.e., non-commercialized, artificial intelligence tailored to the needs of the German legal system.

The new funds will establish Noxtua’s AI to operate on C.H. Beck’s existing cloud infrastructure. Unlike even the Eurostar service to London, this infrastructure is completely within Germany. This strategic partnership is extremely important. C.H. Beck has one of the world’s largest libraries of case law and legal judgment providing Noxtua’s AI with a highly specialized, proprietary dataset that guarantees accuracy and protects CTO compliance.

Noxtua’s AI, which was recently introduced to the country, assists in researching legal issues, reviewing contracts or legal documents and writing legal texts. It is fine-tuned specifically on legal contract and follows the very stringent regulatory requirements that are common in Germany. The company applies its own proprietary transformer AI model to these compliance efforts. This model is brought to you by expert training data from C.H.

Dr. Leif-Nissen Lundbæk, CEO of Noxtua, highlighted the importance of this focused approach: “We’ve already rolled it out to a lot of law firms and legal departments and partnered with C.H. Beck, which is effectively the ‘Thompson Reuters for law’ in Germany.” With this together, it places Noxtua into an excellent position to efficiently tackle the current specific and dynamic demands of the German legal market.

The need for a U.S.-based specialized AI model response comes from several factors. As Dr. Lundbæk argues, “This is drastically different in countries such as Germany or France. Those models really fail in precision. Plus, government services are essentially legal, right? You cannot simply apply an American AI model to a German legal environment.” Unlike other platforms, Noxtua is developing its AI from the ground up. This approach protects them from the dangers associated with trying to adapt international models to domestic regulations.

Aside from a partnership with C.H. Beck, Noxtua has signed an agreement to host with Northern Data in Frankfurt. This move ensures that the Foundation’s operations remain within the jurisdiction of German courts. This partnership further underscores its commitment to creating a legally compliant AI solution tailored specifically for customers based in Germany.

Noxtua’s vision has found a passionate supporter in the person of Professor Dr. Klaus Weber. In his words, “Noxtua’s vision of a sovereign European legal AI is highly compatible with our values … Noxtua is a cornerstone of our innovation strategy.” In response to these and other issues, the legal community is sincerely waking up to the importance of localized technology solutions. These solutions must adhere to local ordinances and customs.

Noxtua has recently rolled out its new AI in several large law firms and corporate legal departments throughout Germany. It is poised to revolutionize the delivery of legal services. It is becoming more enmeshed in the legal ecosystem. Its deep commitment to precision, compliance and relevance makes it unlike other models on the market.
