Pei was particularly worried about security in app development. On protecting security she highlighted that protecting security is critical to keeping users’ trust as developers create new apps via Playground.

In his opinion, the resulting pace of software iteration has created a larger barrier to innovation in the industry.
“Something that has always bothered me is why we aren’t improving software? A lot of people look at what big companies like Apple do, and follow that because that is the safer path. I think software iteration is very slow.” – Carl Pei
