Mozilla Corporation names Anthony Enzor-DeMeo as new Chief Executive Officer. He replaces Laura Chambers, who was interim CEO. Prior to her tenure with Mozilla, Enzor-DeMeo was Firefox’s General Manager. Now, he carries a deep bench of expertise in product management and corporate strategy to his new position. He’ll work on diversifying Mozilla’s business lines. He hopes to not have a repeat of the past where lawmakers are too reliant on search engine partnerships, specifically with Google.
Prior to joining ListAssist, Enzor-DeMeo held product roles at Roofstock, Better, and Wayfair. From all of these experiences, he developed a keen intuition about what consumers want and how the market works. Prior to moving into product management, David acquired useful experiences at Reuters and Acuris Global. There, he reported on M&A, equity, regulatory news, and debt markets from across North America and Europe. This varied history gives him a special outlook when it comes to keeping Mozilla on the leading edge of innovation.
In his new position, Enzor-DeMeo aims to expand Firefox into “a broader ecosystem of trusted software.” This vision represents a big change for Mozilla, which has always counted on its web browser as its core product. By creating a more integrated suite of products, the company hopes to attract new users and generate additional revenue sources.
Second, Mozilla is almost completely dependent on its revenue-sharing arrangement with Google. Enzor-DeMeo hopes to tackle this change head on. He reiterates that diversification of revenue streams is critical for the health of the company going forward. He noted that user choice is a critical principle in tech, especially when it comes to integration of AI across products.
“AI should always be a choice — something people can easily turn off. People should know why a feature works the way it does and what value they get from it.” – Anthony Enzor-DeMeo
This focus on transparency and user agency will shape Enzor-DeMeo’s vision as he takes the helm of Mozilla toward its next era. His leadership couldn’t come at a more important time. Even some of the biggest tech companies can’t seem to figure out the balance between rapid AI deployment and maintaining user trust.
Enzor-DeMeo’s vision dovetails beautifully with our own mission at Mozilla to make the internet open and accessible to all internet users. As Mr. Biden begins this journey, the tech community will be looking at each step very carefully. They above all want to see how he carries out these ambitious plans while remaining true to Mozilla’s core values.
