Meta Gains Apple Design Executive Alan Dye in Strategic Move

Alan Dye, one of the world’s most influential design execs, is taking a radical career leap. He’s leaving Apple, where he helped create the user interface that made them ubiquitous, to join Meta. Mark Gurman at Bloomberg scooped this on December 3, 2025—with a report that he is leaving. This announcement represents an enormous change for the industry.

For the last ten years Dye has led Apple’s UI team, though his work goes far beyond that. Since 1999, he’s taken the lead on architecting every single iconic Apple interface. His exit marks a “major coup” for Meta as the company tries to strengthen its artificial intelligence efforts.

At Meta, Dye will work on developing AI features to deploy across the extensive ecosystem of the company’s devices. McCarthy will report directly to Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth. Registered architect Andrew, who manages the design of cutting-edge aesthetic and functional features that enrich the user experience.

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, lauded Dye’s work during his career at the company. He emphasized that Dye was responsible for developing every major Apple interface since 1999. That only serves to underscore how important his contributions have been to the brand’s world-beating success.

Dye recently joined Meta just as the tech giant is all-in on pushing the boundaries of artificial intelligence. For one, they are hungry to show off the coolest and newest features baked into their products. His deep experience and success in creating engaging user interfaces will be a big plus for Meta’s multi-year efforts.

We know the tech landscape is always changing. Bringing in high-profile figures such as Dye and others highlights the intense jockeying for position between the top firms. Meta’s integrative strategy exemplifies its fierce commitment to innovation. New partnerships deepen commitment to cultivating a more human-centered approach to tech design, particularly how AI can enhance user engagement.
