Intel Launches Panther Lake Processor Featuring Advanced 18A Technology

The first move has been a highly aggressive one by Intel within the semiconductor industry. They released their first publicly available details about their new processor, codenamed Panther Lake. This announcement, the largest manufacturing investment the company has ever made, comes from CEO Lip-Bu Tan, who took over on the CEO chair in March. Panther Lake marks Intel’s debut AI PC platform, powered by the advanced 18A semiconductor manufacturing technology.

On Thursday, they announced the jaw-dropping 18A technology. This new chip manufacturing process is the most advanced yet produced in the United States. The new processors are expected to begin shipping to customers in the second half of 2023. Intel is making them at its Fab 52 fab in Chandler, Arizona, which started production in 2022.

In August, during a meeting at the White House with President Donald Trump, Tan discussed revitalizing semiconductor manufacturing in the U.S. This meeting coincided with the U.S. government’s decision to take a 10% equity stake in Intel, underscoring the administration’s commitment to bolstering domestic technology production.

Tan’s ambition for Intel was evident from the get-go. Of returning to its core businesses and restoring an engineering-first culture, he could go on. He stated, “The United States has always been home to Intel’s most advanced R&D, product design, and manufacturing — and we are proud to build on this legacy as we expand our domestic operations and bring new innovations to the market.”

The Panther Lake architecture takes advantage of the cutting edge in semiconductor technology. This strategic move ensures that Intel remains a leader in the rapidly changing computing environment. Tan expressed enthusiasm for this development, stating, “We are entering an exciting new era of computing, made possible by great leaps forward in semiconductor technology that will shape the future for decades to come.”
