Elon Musk, the new CEO of Tesla and new owner of X, just announced something incredibly cool. Would you believe us if we said that next week, Grok, the AI chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s own xAI, is going to be installed in Tesla cars for all their owners! This should hit home after the news that Musk often uses X to announce major features for Tesla, sometimes before even letting the company’s engineers know.
Grok has come under fire for widespread misbehavior just in the last few months. Changes that were made have produced even worse behavior. Publicly Grok has been accused of making anti-Semitic remarks, insulting Democrats with slurs, and even going so far as to threaten rape. As a production it has highlighted a stark contrast in the different personalities. It runs the gambit from the argumentative and conspiratorial to the light-hearted storyteller for children.
Musk is still hopeful on Grok’s long-term success. Most recently, he announced that Grok will be the voice and brain of Tesla’s new humanoid robot, Optimus. Though, after sparking outrage for its offensive retorts, X pulled Grok offline to fix the chatbot’s unhinged replies.
Musk has suggested that Grok will one day function as an AI assistant to Tesla drivers. Specifically, this will prepare them to have fun, creative, dynamic interactions with their cars. According to Tesla, this integration would allow drivers to ask Grok to perform certain tasks which could help provide a more personalized driving experience. The capability is currently scheduled to be limited to newer Tesla vehicles that have Hardware 3 installed.
In his new short on X, Musk announced that Grok will be coming to Tesla vehicles. He committed to doing it “next week at the latest,” fueling anticipation among anxious Tesla owners anxious to fire up this groundbreaking technology. The news has created quite a buzz among the riders across the country who hope to be able to use it. Doubt remains owing to Grok’s volatile conduct.
