Google recently announced the upcoming shutdown of its Tables app, which was one of the earliest successes to come out of its Area 120 innovation incubator. Public Tables, which aimed to make project tracking easier with automation, will shut down December 16, 2025. Google announced that users needed to either export their data to Google Sheets or AppSheet. They further went above and beyond by posting extensive informative FAQ about the transition on their website.
The decision to wind down Tables comes as part of broader layoffs at Google, which has been restructuring its workforce and projects. Despite the discontinuation of Tables, a small number of projects from Area 120 will be integrated into core Google product areas. The team responsible for Tables is now zeroed in on creating a completely new experience with data. This new intelligent engine will automatically fuel smart applications and workflows directly in AppSheet.
We first launched Tables in the summer of 2020 with a goal of making project management a more collaborative process. Originally offered as a beta test, it evolved into an official Google Cloud product in 2021. The application provided users with custom and built-in automations to remove friction from their project tracking processes.
In June 2023, Google previewed a new alternative with AppSheet. This new capability gives users the power to define data models for custom applications and workflows directly within AppSheet. This development aligns with Google’s ongoing commitment to enhance its cloud offerings while catering to the evolving needs of its user base.

After much consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to shut down Tables. This decision illustrates the obstacles that many innovative technology companies face in an increasingly dynamic and competitive marketplace. The company is currently incorporating multiple Area 120 projects into its core business. This step is a demonstration of its resolve to streamline resources and provide better, more cohesive user experiences across its cloud products.
