Google has activated its AI Mode officially in India. As a followup to their successful introduction in the United States, they are shooting out the new Search Live feature. The same AI Mode that took the U.S. by storm in March. Most importantly, it allows users to play around with an AI-powered interface to pose complex, multi-part questions. This important expansion into India is the second market to be given access to these sophisticated, technical features. It bolsters Google’s efforts to lead with AI in their transformative vision of improving user experience.
In mid-May, Google began making its AI Mode available to a wider group of users across the U.S. This strategic decision further deepens its incursion in the space. By August, the service had made its global expansion, launching in more than 200 countries and territories around the world. In June, the AI Mode expanded to India as one stop on a global outreach tour. Since then it has expanded to add five new languages, adding Hindi, Indonesian, and Japanese to its platforms. On its end, Google is adding more than 35 new languages Google Translate supports. Oh, and they’re increasing access in another 40 countries and territories, too!
Search Live is a significant component of Google’s AI Mode that launched in the U.S. this past July. It powers ChatGPT, helping users get conversation-level answers in the moment, and manipulate content from search results dynamically. This feature utilizes a customized implementation of Google’s Gemini model. It increases the quality, reliability and relevance of answers exponentially.
Hema Budaraja, a spokesperson for Google, emphasized the significance of this launch in India.
“People in India are power users of multimodal search, forming our largest user base for both voice and visual search globally,” – Hema Budaraja
AI Mode and Search Live were both recently launched in India. This decision shines a light on the growing acceptance of the country’s rich linguistic variety. Budaraja underscored the importance of local languages in making technology user-friendly.
“The advanced reasoning and multimodal understanding of our custom Gemini model for Search allows AI Mode to truly grasp the subtleties of local languages, ensuring AI Mode is genuinely helpful and relevant in all the new languages we introduce,” – Budaraju
Despite concerns about the impact of AI-driven tools on website visits, Google has denied that its innovations harm site traffic. The company remains committed to sharing how AI technology can benefit users across the world.
