Cohere, a leader in multilingual artificial intelligence solutions, has just introduced a powerful new family of innovative open multilingual models. They are dubbing this new line Tiny Aya. These state-of-the-art models power more than 70 languages. They’re uniquely focused on the needs of researchers and developers building applications for linguistically diverse communities.
And just look at how fantastic the Tiny Aya models look! Their open-weight design allows users to freely inspect and adapt the underlying code. This feature truly encourages a spirit of innovation and collaboration. It also gives developers the power to further tailor the models to best serve unique communities. The base model boasts a staggering 3.35 billion parameters, guaranteeing a powerful performance in any application.
Cohere fine-tuned the Tiny Aya models on a single cluster of 64 H100 GPUs. Accomplishing this feat underscores the company’s ability to produce jaw-dropping results with comparatively limited computing power. The models can run on everyday devices such as laptops, eliminating the need for an internet connection and facilitating broader accessibility.
To make their models even more usable, Cohere has released a number of Tiny Aya regional variants of the Tiny Aya models. TinyAya-Earth focuses on African languages, TinyAya-Fire serves South Asian languages, and TinyAya-Water caters to audiences in Asia Pacific, West Asia, and Europe. Additionally, TinyAya-Global has been fine-tuned to better follow user commands, making it particularly suitable for applications that require wide-ranging language support.
Cohere’s chief exec Aidan Gomez made the case for cultural nuance in the creation of these models.
“This approach allows each model to develop stronger linguistic grounding and cultural nuance, creating systems that feel more natural and reliable for the communities they are meant to serve. At the same time, all Tiny Aya models retain broad multilingual coverage, making them flexible starting points for further adaptation and research.” – Cohere
The launch of Tiny Aya comes at a crucial time for Cohere to establish itself in the increasingly competitive enterprise AI arena. By the end of 2025, the company had grown that figure to an astounding $240 million in ARR. It set the bar with an incredible 50%-plus growth quarter-over-quarter for the full year.
Gomez indicated that Cohere is planning to go public “soon,” reflecting the company’s confidence in its trajectory and future growth potential. Cohere is committed to building advanced enterprise AI solutions. They are truly at the forefront of exploring and expanding the capabilities of multilingual communication technology.
