Anthropic’s new AI chatbot, Claude, has experienced a historic wave of adoption. This bump comes on the heels of its recent Super Bowl advertising blitz, which aggressively and hilariously mocked artificial intelligence. This campaign has significantly increased Claude’s public profile and user interest. As a consequence, its app has rocketed to the top of the most used mobile applications.
From Sunday through Tuesday, Claude experienced an extraordinary 15% increase in global downloads across the App Store and Google Play. This was despite the increase from the prior Thursday to Saturday week cycle. Needless to say, the app is attracting a great deal of interest. This was the case even as it exploded, reaching a staggering 157,000 total downloads in its first week! Claude skyrocketed from No. 41 to No. 55 on the U.S. App Store in only a few hours. Whatever is behind this increase, it is clear that more users are finding out about what it has to offer.
Claude’s gains were large, but Appfigures recently discovered that these increases have been less than half the growth the U.S. market experienced. This reflects widespread global excitement for the app, but it shows the app has a lot of room to grow at home. Claude’s average daily downloads from Sunday through Tuesday totaled a remarkable 49,200. That’s a record-breaking 32% jump from its typical high of 37,400 for that time of year.
You might also like… In the U.S. alone, Claude gained around 148,000 downloads combined on iOS and Android devices from Sunday through Tuesday. This increase is a testament to its rising popularity! It’s hit its all-time high ranking on the App Store at No. 7. It has so far failed to reach that high a rank.
The recent promotional efforts have drawn attention to Claude’s unique selling point: a “no ads” policy that resonates strongly with users weary of intrusive advertising in other applications. This innovative aspect was probably key to its ability to gain a larger user base. In comparison, other generative AI competitors such as ChatGPT reached close to half a million installs in their first five days on mobile devices.
From Thursday-Saturday Claude experienced just under 112,000 net downloads. This spike serves to demonstrate just how powerful and effective those ads were at driving new users to the platform. As more individuals download and explore Claude’s capabilities, it appears that Anthropic’s marketing strategy has successfully raised the app’s profile in a competitive market.
