After years of speculation, Apple has finally shown off their new operating system redesign, called Liquid Glass, at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 25. Alan Dye, Apple’s vice president of design, unveiled this groundbreaking change. It’s going to provide a compelling new visual experience across all devices to users. With Liquid Glass, we’re poised to take the iOS interface and software that powers the iPhone to a whole new level. This update marks the biggest aesthetic change since iOS 7 fully adopted a skeuomorphic to flat design.
Liquid Glass incorporates “the optical qualities of glass and a fluidity that only Apple can achieve,” according to Dye. This new design aims to create a more engaging and vibrant user experience by responding dynamically to user content and input. The user interface extends well beyond iOS 26 for the iPhone. It will further improve the experience on other Apple hardware, ensuring continuity across their entire lineup.
The new redesign includes an Icon Composer. This tool gives developers and users the freedom to personalize their app icons and interfaces in an entirely new way. This functional feature is an example of Apple’s shift toward personalization without losing the minimalist beauty that sets Apple apart from its competitors.
To thunderous applause, Apple opened up the presentation, demoing Liquid Glass with a few jaw dropping screenshots. They praised its unified design aesthetic, which distinguished it from past iterations of iOS. These images tell the story of how Liquid Glass responds dynamically in real time to user interactions. This results in a highly fluid, attractive space that significantly improves user experience.
Co-creator Alan Dye mentioned a few of the unique features we’re currently calling Liquid Glass. He reiterated that the intent is to give users a more engaging experience. He noted that the redesign provides a much-needed aesthetic change. It’s elevating the way users engage with their devices.

With the introduction of Liquid Glass, Apple shows that they’re still committed to pushing the envelope with each new generation of their user interface. For Apple, it’s all about fluidity and responsiveness. Like Apple’s, this aim is to create a new paradigm of how users engage and interface with technology. This newest update totally changes the aesthetic experience of iOS. Beyond that, it lays the groundwork for even more thrilling future improvements in UI.
