Apple Enhances Xcode with Agentic Coding Tools from Anthropic and OpenAI

Apple today released Xcode 26.3, a major update to its official app development suite. This latest version allows developers to integrate agentic tools directly into their workflows, enhancing the capabilities available for app development across Apple’s hardware platforms, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch.

Xcode 26.3 brings some pretty powerful agentic coding tools. This long-awaited improvement gives developers access to artificial intelligence capabilities in their applications like never before. Xcode 26.3 brings new features to help developers create even more amazing apps. It includes as two of its main examples of agentic tools, Anthropic’s Claude Agent and OpenAI’s Codex. These tools use some of the most advanced AI models available to help developers code faster and with greater accuracy.

Within Xcode 26.3, a user-friendly drop-down menu allows developers to select from various model versions, including the highly anticipated GPT-5.2 and GPT-5.1-mini. This flexibility allows developers to easily identify and select the best fitting model to address their unique coding needs.

Apple seems to have done a lot of work to reduce token usage and tool calls in this update. These optimizations help integrated agents run efficiently, delivering a responsive coding experience back to users. This commitment to performance is particularly significant given that Xcode 26.3 follows last year’s Xcode 26 release, which initially introduced support for ChatGPT and Claude within Apple’s integrated development environment (IDE).

The IDE is the developer’s most critical tool. On top of all that, it gives them the fundamental tools to develop applications for nearly all Apple devices. Eager to help developers truly stake claim to their agency, Apple releases agentic coding tools in Xcode 26.3. These premium materials will make coding easier and faster, increasing productivity.

To help users get more comfortable using these new features, Apple is putting on a “code-along” workshop this Thursday. Read on to learn more about our special programming. Watch the announcement live on Apple’s developer site. Follow along with live demos and get hands-on experience using agentic coding tools coding along in real-time using your own copy of Xcode! This practical, interactive workshop is designed to promote high-quality hands-on learning and get developers feeling confident about the new features.

Developers interested in utilizing the agentic coding capabilities in Xcode should first download the agents they wish to use from the application’s settings. This final step will give them the confidence to pursue all possible benefits from the new AI-driven tools. Developers can discover these improvements in the new build of Xcode 13.
