Anthropic, an AI research company, is advancing its efforts to integrate voice capabilities into its AI-powered chatbot, Claude. The company, guided by Chief Product Officer Mike Krieger, is actively developing a voice experience that will permit users to interact with Claude using voice commands. In pursuit of this goal, Anthropic has engaged in discussions with Amazon, its significant investor and partner, as well as with ElevenLabs, a startup specializing in voice-focused AI technology. While no formal agreements have been reached, these talks aim to expedite the development of future voice features for Claude.
The initiative to incorporate voice interaction is a strategic element of Anthropic's broader plan for Claude. By allowing users to communicate verbally with the AI models, Anthropic intends to offer a more natural and intuitive user interface. Commenting on this development, Krieger stated:
"We are doing some work around how Claude for desktop evolves […] if it is going to be operating your computer, a more natural user interface might be to [speak to it]."
With the voice experience expected to launch soon, Anthropic is investing considerably in enhancing its voice capabilities. This initiative comes as part of Anthropic's ongoing strategy to innovate and expand the functionality of its AI offerings. The company has prototypes in place, and Krieger has been actively discussing the voice experience with various partners to propel its launch.
"We will do voice internally […] it is a useful modality to have. We have prototypes," said Krieger.
