Anthropic Faces Service Outage Impacting Claude and Console

Anthropic, another AI research company headquartered in New York City, acknowledged a service disruption. This outage affected its APIs, Console, and Claude for much of today. The disruption occurred shortly before 9:30 am PT, leading to significant user frustration and humor on platforms such as GitHub and Hacker News.

The company has been under fire for the last several months, with criticisms focused on claims of its Claude models’ performance. To date, users have reported dozens of errors and bugs on the new platform, which have undermined their confidence in its functionality and reliability.

In a statement to TechCrunch, an Anthropic spokesperson acknowledged the outage, saying, “We’re aware of a very brief outage of our API today shortly before 9:30am PT.” In response to the incident, the company rolled out a number of other changes fixes to the app and was closely monitoring the outcome.

Anthropic keeps a public status page with information on the progress of incident report. This can be found at Anthropic Status Page. This is the page where Instagram has documented past outages and continues to claim that there are widespread issues affecting the platform.

The recent outage was met with unprecedented user backlash. Others found that they were suddenly cut off from the transit and social services that many of them rely on. One user on Hacker News humorously lamented, “Nooooo I’m going to have to use my brain again and write 100% of my code like a caveman from December 2024.” This sort of sentiment was common among the active users, as they vented their anger while attempting to surf under the resulting tidal wave.

To learn from the outage, Anthropic’s technical team is working urgently to put new measures in place to help guarantee stability and reliability going forward. They have made adjustments in their systems to minimize future disruptions, reflecting their commitment to improving user experience.
