Aeva, a California-based technology startup launched in 2017, has developed remarkable advances in cutting-edge LiDAR technology. The company recently shared the exciting news of a new partnership with an LG subsidiary. Together, they’ll work to make the revolutionary “4D LiDAR on a chip” a reality. This groundbreaking technology has the potential to disrupt every industry, starting with the transportation sector.
Over the last eight years, Aeva has poured almost half a billion dollars into building out its advanced LiDAR systems. The company’s co-founder and CEO Soroush Salehian told Smart Cities Dive they feel good about the direction their technology is heading. He said that Aeva has been really focused on the form factor, designing everything so that their final product can come down into a monolithic, single-chip design.
“Over the past eight years, we’ve made [the hardware] super small, and we’re sticking to that trajectory. We’re going to make it down to a monolithic, single-chip.” – Soroush Salehian
The deal with LG is an initial step in Aeva’s larger plan. The company is now poised to take its applications further afield, into the worlds of smart infrastructure and smart transportation. It will dive deep into manufacturing, robotics, and the consumer electronics industry. Aeva’s tech is already creating a new paradigm in security. Now, major U.S. airports including San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and JFK Terminal One are rolling out its innovative solutions.
Aeva, for example, has partnered with LG to expand its capabilities. In addition to these, it has built international alliances with Japanese firm Nikon and German firm CKG. These strategic alliances are key to increasing the scalability of Aeva’s cutting-edge designs and expediting their use across diverse industries.
Salehian underlined the importance of their innovation. His emphasis was on the advanced capabilities made possible by their LiDAR systems.
“It’s like going from black-and-white to color camera. We get this velocity information as a new dimension.” – Soroush Salehian
Aeva’s commitment to miniaturized chip-scale design means that production can be both efficient and intuitive, offering seamless integration with today’s technologies. This go-to-market strategy places Aeva in a great position against competitors in the fast-paced automotive and robotics industries.
Aeva will be showing off all of these breakthroughs at the 2025 TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco from October 27-29. This meeting will serve as a great platform for Aeva to interact with other industry leaders. Kate Park, a TechCrunch reporter, will be reporting live from this crossroads of innovation, bringing you word of the latest and greatest in tech and startups.
