OpenAI Postpones Launch of ChatGPT’s Adult Mode Again

OpenAI has announced a delay in the launch of the highly anticipated “adult mode” for its popular artificial intelligence tool, ChatGPT. The feature was previously scheduled to roll out in December. Now, news from Axios and subsequently TechCrunch have both confirmed that it too will be delayed, until the first quarter of the year.

According to an internal memo, OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman recently called for a “code red” emergency. So, the team made the hard call to delay the launch. The memo emphasized the need for teams to concentrate on enhancing the core ChatGPT experience, which may have influenced the postponement of the adult mode feature.

The adult mode Adult Mode is intended to give verified adult users access to erotica and other adult content. This program was initially teased by Altman last October, creating intense excitement and speculation from eager applicants. As development progresses, OpenAI has determined that more time is necessary to refine the experience before it becomes available.

An OpenAI spokesperson commented on the situation, stating, “We still believe in the principle of treating adults like adults, but getting the experience right will take more time.” They further explained that the decision to delay was made to ensure that resources are allocated to “work that is a higher priority for more users right now.”

While OpenAI works to overcome issues for the deployment of this feature, millions of users would like to hear more about when it will be available. We’re committed to releasing a polished product that lives up to the expectations of our users. This reinforces our commitment to developing AI responsibly.
