METLEN, nationally recognized leader in renewable energy and energy transition, is excited to announce a significant partnership engagement with PPC Group. Under the agreement, the two companies will form a joint venture to deploy 1.5 gigawatts (GW) worth of battery energy storage systems (BESS). Energy transition and sustainable development across Europe would be served well by this strategic collaboration.
Both METLEN and PPC Group will have an equal 50% stake in the new joint-venture company. Nikos Papapetrou, the Chief Executive Director of METLEN, emphasized that this agreement represents a pivotal advancement in the company’s strategy to implement projects that support energy transformation.
“This agreement creates value for both parties and further expands our Group’s already significant presence in south-east Europe,” stated Konstantinos Mavros, PPC Group’s Deputy CEO for renewables. This partnership is the next step toward METLEN’s mission of developing a strong foothold in Europe’s emerging energy storage market.
METLEN’s current projects include deploying energy storage systems that help maximize electricity generation from renewable energy sources (RES). To bring these pioneering projects to life, METLEN is collaborating with Jinko ESS. Collectively, they will provide more than three GWh of utility-scale BESS in Chile and Europe.
In Europe, METLEN’s main efforts lie improving the practice of its initiatives in Romania, Bulgaria, and Italy. In fact, within the next year, the company aims to roll out 1 GW of energy storage capacity across these nations. These facilities will be powered by two-hour liquid-cooled battery systems. These systems employ cutting-edge lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology, which is proven to be efficient and safe.
Energy storage projects are poised to be key players in the stabilization of our electricity system across the country. They’ll be having a big effect all over the continent, too. By making the grid better able to incorporate RES, these initiatives are making our energy more reliable, renewable, and sustainable.
Nikos Papapetrou remarked on the importance of this partnership, stating, “The agreement with PPC Group marks yet another substantive step in METLEN’s strategy to develop and implement projects that support the energy transition and sustainable development in Europe.” This is a testament to METLEN’s innovative spirit in tackling the challenges of energy transition in a rapidly evolving landscape.
Together, METLEN and PPC Group have the potential to make real waves in Europe’s energy transition. As one, they’re making big strides in creating a more sustainable future.
