GE Vernova Expands Wind Energy Footprint with New Projects in Italy and Romania

GE Vernova continues to play a vital role in Italy’s energy landscape by supplying approximately one-quarter of the country’s power capacity. With a focus on renewable energy, the company operates about 135 megawatts of wind power facilities in Italy. The company is making major moves outside its home market, with big new contracts in Italy and Romania.

In a notable latest achievement, GE Vernova recently secured a contract for a new Fortore, Benevento, Italy-based project. They’ll provide 17 of those onshore wind turbines for this groundbreaking project. With a capacity greater than 100MW, this wind farm is truly a giant! It sits atop the list of the biggest projects awarded in a recent auction held by Italy’s energy agency. The project is a key demonstration of GE Vernova’s advanced technology. Its large-scale, 6.1MW–158m turbine design enhances competitiveness in energy auctions by allowing efficient, sustainable energy delivery at scale.

In December 2025, GE Vernova signed a partnership with Greenvolt Power. They contracted to deliver onshore wind turbines for the Gurbanesti wind farm, located in neighboring Călărași County, Romania. The anticipated delivery of this group of turbines is the second quarter of 2027. Each turbine is equipped with a huge capacity of 6.1MW. It uses the industry’s first two-piece blade manufacturing technology, underscoring GE Vernova’s commitment to pioneering advancements in wind energy.

GE Vernova backs its wide-ranging operations with deep domain maintenance services. Its Wind Service Team is located in Troia (Foggia) and from other Italian strategic locations. Having this kind of service network in place makes maintenance more efficient, helping the turbines perform at a higher level for longer.

With more than a century of experience in Italy’s power sector, GE Vernova has firmly established its presence through various projects. The company’s ongoing initiatives not only bolster Italy’s energy requirements but contribute significantly to the broader European renewable energy goals.

These agreements and projects highlight GE Vernova’s commitment to helping lead the wind energy industry into the future. The firm focuses intensely on deep technology innovation and technology-driven service capabilities. This places it in an excellent position to serve the rapidly growing need for renewable energy in Italy and Romania.
