Inyanga Marine Energy Group Expands Tidal Energy Project in Anglesey

Inyanga Marine Energy Group is announced as award winners. With this backing, the company will be able to further develop its Morlais tidal energy project in Anglesey, Wales. The initiative aims to accelerate clean, stable power delivery to the grid at industrial scale. It emphasizes centralization and a pursuit of economies of scale to achieve the highest possible efficiency.

The project is set to install up to 18 HydroWing HW3 tidal energy devices. Each device has a nameplate capacity of 1.67 megawatts (MW), so the addition will greatly increase their current generation capacity. This expansion is another important step in making Anglesey a global leader in tidal energy generation.

Project Overview

The HydroWing for the Morlais Project will be the largest tidal energy development in the world once completed. As with a lot of projects, the overall project has been phased into steps. To begin phase 1A, we intend to deploy the first full-sized HydroWing device in 2027. Residentially, the project will be fully built out by 2030. Phase three, which will bring a new terminus and bus garage, is planned for completion later in 2020.

Richard Parkinson, CEO of Inyanga Marine Energy Group was pleased about the recent award, saying, “We are thrilled to receive this award.

“This latest award allows us to focus on economies of scale and drive momentum towards delivering clean and stable power to the grid in Anglesey at an industrial scale.” – Richard Parkinson, CEO of Inyanga Marine Energy Group

This latest commitment emphasizes the company’s continued focus on developing tidal energy technologies and deploying them in real-world use cases.

Impact on Local Energy Landscape

As a result, we chose to scale up the Morlais project. This decision aligns with our larger effort to enable more renewable energy development in the Midwest. Andy Billcliff, chief executive of Menter Môn Morlais, said this announcement was great news for the local community. He elaborated its positive ripple effects on the worldwide renewable energy industry.

“Today’s announcement is fantastic news for our tidal stream project at Morlais, cementing our position at the global forefront of tidal stream technology.” – Andy Billcliff, chief executive of Menter Môn Morlais

Inyanga Marine Energy Group and Menter Môn are collaborating to advance sustainable energy innovation. Together, their partnership will truly reimagine the energy landscape in Wales, and throughout the world.

Future Prospects

With the successful completion of the Morlais tidal energy project, it will mark both a technological milestone and their promise to environmental sustainability. As HydroWing HW3 devices are deployed, more of the energy needs will be supplied locally. Beyond that, it will help establish a standard that future tidal energy projects worldwide will be judged against.

Stakeholders are particularly enthusiastic about the potential local economic impacts of this project. They’re counting on those different stages before 2030 to deliver a huge amount of positive benefits. It is expected to serve as a model for integrating tidal energy into existing power grids while fostering economic growth within Anglesey.
