RIVR robots, specifically engineered to handle stairs, are now undergoing real-world trials in cities around the UK. These ‘couriers’, as trials by Just Eat UK refer to a fleet of four-legged delivery robots that can traverse “treacherous … This new creative adventure is happening in Milton Keynes and Bristol, where a combined ten independent eateries are involved.
In Milton Keynes, the trial includes very popular local destinations. Satisfy your craving with fabulous bites from 12th Street Burgers & Shakes and Moores Fish & Chips. Closer to home, Bristol has eight restaurants taking part, including Jolly Fryer, Chicken Mews and Bishopston Fish Bar. Each of the robots’ feet are outfitted with tiny wheels, giving the robots the ability to climb up stairs and travel across multiple types of surfaces.
So far, RIVR robots have proven themselves by making almost 1,000 autonomous deliveries. Even more remarkable, all of this was done under the auspices of a pilot program in Switzerland. This success provides a strong platform for their eventual introduction into the UK market.
Marko Bjelonic, chief executive of RIVR, highlighted how meaningful this trial was. He stated,
“The launch in Milton Keynes reflects a shared focus on practical, automated delivery that integrates seamlessly into existing operations.”
Most recently, scientists have seen the robots confidently scampering up a long line of outdoor masonry steps. This extraordinary achievement demonstrates their unmatched capacity to solve for pressing concerns facing the world. Each of RIVR’s small robots features a bright orange cargo box mounted on its back for carrying deliveries. This innovation is a significant step towards the future of autonomous delivery systems.
RIVR robot testing, part of a global trend Further testing of delivery robots. While these public trials take place in the UK, delivery drones are being perfected across the Irish Sea. This trend is an example of the industry’s positive and electrifying advancements toward automation.
According to Bjelonic, this collaboration between Just Eat UK and RIVR is indicative of an important development in the sector.
“an important step in scaling autonomous delivery across European cities.”
Our cities are changing and adopting new innovative technology. The deployment of these RIVR robots may radically shift the delivery space. The trials are designed to test their efficiency and practicality in day-to-day operations, laying the groundwork for larger scale adoption.
