Just Eat UK is embarking on a groundbreaking trial involving four-legged RIVR robots, designed to enhance the delivery experience for customers. This new initiative showcases ten self-directed restaurants based in Bristol and Milton Keynes. Its goal is to transform last-mile food delivery by solving the challenges of an urban environment.
As many as eight restaurants in Bristol are willing to participate in the slow restaurant delivery trial. Popular spots feature Jolly Fryer, Chicken Mews and Bishopston Fish Bar. At the same time, over in Milton Keynes, 12th Street Burgers & Shakes and Moores Fish & Chips are gearing up to take part. This project is a significant demonstration of Just Eat UK’s continued commitment to trial innovation and grow their delivery logistics sustainably in urban environments.
Here, the RIVR robots show their ability to handle difficult urban hazards. They have the ability to navigate stairs, which sets them apart from most other delivery options. Every robot is equipped with miniature wheels that you can find hidden under its four legs, giving it enough versatility to maneuver through tough terrains. During the trial, the robots will be tested in real city conditions, including climbing outdoor brick steps situated on grass banks.

He stated that the collaboration represents an “important step in scaling autonomous delivery across European cities.”
This trial comes after the success of a pilot program in Switzerland, which saw almost 1,000 autonomous deliveries completed. The success of that initiative has opened up opportunities for additional testing across the UK. RIVR has done some amazing work, and it’s evident in their approach. On the other end of the spectrum, Ireland is testing delivery drones, showcasing a push towards even more automation into the food delivery process.
Just Eat UK’s focus on innovative solutions reflects a growing demand for efficient delivery options amid the fast-paced urban lifestyle. As the trial unfolds, experts will be watching it intently.
