BrightNight has officially begun construction on the Pioneer Clean Energy Centre. Utility scale solar This massive renewable energy project, the Mount Signal Solar project, is located in Yuma County, Arizona. This facility aims to produce 300 megawatts (MW) of solar energy. To complement it, it will include 300 MW of battery energy storage with 1.2 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of capacity. The project addresses the growing demand for power in the state. It takes bold climate action by avoiding billions of gallons of water and millions of tons of carbon emissions.
The Pioneer Clean Energy Centre will save an estimated 260 million gallons of water annually. This amounts to a stunning drop of more than 99% in water consumption compared to conventional power generation technologies. This incredible conservation achievement illustrates the project’s dedication to environmental stewardship, all while generating more than 900,000 megawatt-hours of electricity each year.
To integrate the generated power into the existing infrastructure, BrightNight plans to construct a nine-mile, 230 kilovolt (kV) transmission line. This addition is important for improving overall grid resilience in Arizona’s most electrically constrained load pocket. It’s providing the nearly 3 million Arizona Public Service customers with reliable access to clean and affordable electricity.
According to BrightNight’s public-private partnership, the initiative will bring 250 to 300 jobs in the construction phase alone. In addition, there will be new operating jobs starting in April 2027, which are expected to create new jobs for local residents. The project is set to generate approximately $83.3 million in local and state property tax revenue throughout its operational lifespan.
From an environmental perspective, the facility is expected to lower carbon dioxide emissions by an average of 641,893 tons per year. This is in line with BrightNight’s mission to make meaningful contributions to local communities’ well-being as we accelerate the transition to clean energy solutions.
Martin Hermann, CEO of BrightNight, emphasized the significance of the project, stating:
“Pioneer reflects BrightNight’s commitment to delivering infrastructure at the scale and performance required to support reliability, economic growth and long-term system resilience.”
The Centre’s development represents BrightNight’s approach to thoughtful innovation and industry-leading sustainable practices. It’s a smart plan to move more people while protecting our air and climate. The construction marks a vital step towards a greener future for Arizona and sets a benchmark for similar projects nationwide.
“This project demonstrates how advanced clean energy and storage can work together to meet real-world utility needs while delivering meaningful benefits to local communities.”
The Pioneer Clean Energy Centre exemplifies BrightNight’s strategy of combining innovative technology and sustainable practices to meet the demands of a growing population while prioritizing environmental responsibility. The construction marks a vital step towards a greener future for Arizona and sets a benchmark for similar projects nationwide.
