TotalEnergies and Google Forge Major Solar Energy Partnership in Texas

TotalEnergies’ two new long-term PPAs with Google are among the largest ever signed. These agreements will provide 1 gigawatt (GW) of solar energy in Texas within the next 15 years. Combined, this collaboration will power the equivalent of four Google data centers with renewable electricity. It touches all around those areas, such as the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), PJM Interconnection over in the Northeast, and the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) over the Central United States.

These contracts are expected to produce approximately 28 terawatt-hours (TWh) of clean energy. This electricity will be generated from the Wichita and Mustang Creek solar projects, which are currently being developed in Texas. Construction on these sites is expected to start in the second quarter of 2026.

TotalEnergies has a strong portfolio in the United States, with a total gross capacity of 10GW. The company has made a commitment to grow its renewable energy business. This recently expanded market includes onshore solar, wind, and battery storage assets. The new deals with Google have added to an already awesome list of collaborations. TotalEnergies will deliver 1 TWh of certified renewable electricity under a 21-year PPA with the Citra Energies solar farm in northern Kedah, Malaysia.

The projects—which include the 155 MW Wichita and the 247 MW Mustang Creek solar farms—will help power Google’s data centers with renewable energy. They need to provide real large-scale benefits to the communities they localize. The project’s construction phase alone is expected to produce several hundred jobs. At the same time, tax contributions via operational revenues are poised to make an enormous positive impact on public services.

TotalEnergies’ US vice president of renewables Marc-Antoine Pignon said he was glad to see these agreements.

“We are pleased to sign these agreements to supply renewable electricity to Google in Texas, representing the largest renewable PPA volume ever signed by TotalEnergies in the US.” – Marc-Antoine Pignon, TotalEnergies US vice president renewables

In addition to improving urban mobility, the partnership underscores Google’s growing devotion to sustainable environmental practices. During our recent launch event, Will Conkling, Google’s director of clean energy and power, described the need to strengthen and protect local power systems.

“Supporting a strong, stable, affordable grid is a top priority as we expand our infrastructure. Our agreement with TotalEnergies adds necessary new generation to the local system, boosting the amount of affordable and reliable power supply available to serve the entire region.” – Will Conkling, Google director of clean energy and power

This collaboration between TotalEnergies and Google is going much further in a direction advocated across the renewable energy sector. These deals further support Google’s clean energy agendas. They further address issues of land availability and access to power supply for data centers, creating opportunities for large-scale collocation opportunities.
