CAPE Holland Secures Contract for Taiwan’s Fengmiao Offshore Wind Farm

CAPE Holland, a major player in the offshore wind industry, has joined the Venterra Group. They have recently landed a breakthrough contract with China Datang Renewable Power Co., Ltd. (CDWE) to provide essential turbines and technology for the Fengmiao Offshore Wind Farm in Taiwan. This climate-forward effort is definitely ambitious in reach, targeting a mind-boggling capacity of 500 megawatts (MW). It will feature 33 wind turbine generator positions, each driven by state of the art 15 MW turbines.

For the largest elevated structure in Taiwan, the Fengmiao Offshore Wind Farm project’s offshore substation foundation will be a solid, four-legged jacket structure. Each skirt pile will weigh as much as 810 tons. Further, the foundation piles are projected to weigh as much as 585 tons. With a proven track record in this area, CAPE Holland have an established process. To date, they have done this largely accident free while installing their jacket piles over 400 times in Taiwan.

Frank Koopman, managing director of CAPE Holland, showcased the versatility of the company’s equipment. He stated,

“The successful application of the CAPE VLT on previous projects like Hai Long has proven its value in delivering safe, efficient and cost-effective pile installation with significantly benefits addressing operational risks as well as environmental concerns given the key features of the CAPE VLT.”

The CAPE VLT tool making precise measurements in rough subsea conditions. It really does a great job of reducing the likelihood of pile run, which greatly increases operational efficiency. Koopman further noted that

“As part of the Venterra Group, we can offer our clients not only cutting-edge technology but also the assurance of world-class manufacturing and wider engineering support.”

This contract thus marks a significant milestone for CAPE Holland. It takes the company deeper into the renewable energy space. The Fengmiao Offshore Wind Farm is an important move in the right direction as Taiwan continues to grow its dependence on renewable energy.
