Enery, one of Europe’s largest renewable power producers, has officially begun construction with the Ogrezeni hybrid renewable energy project. This positive innovation is occurring over the border in Giurgiu County, Romania. This ambitious project combines large-scale photovoltaic (PV) generation with battery storage. This is a major step forward in Romania’s renewable energy scene.
With an installed capacity of 761 megawatt-peak (MWp) and 534 megawatts (MW) alternating current, architectural borders The Ogrezeni project was a first in other respects. It boasts over one gigawatt-hour of battery storage, providing a solid energy cushion. When completed, the project is expected to deliver enough renewable electricity to power over 684,000 New Jersey homes, making a major positive impact on the state’s energy landscape.
Learn more about how the Ogrezeni project aspires to produce long-term sustainability. It is estimated to reduce carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) emissions by about 303,000 tonnes per year. This is consistent with Romania’s bigger picture priorities of decarbonisation and bolstering energy security. Enery’s creative approach is a terrific model for future renewable energy projects in the region. At its core, it shows how hybrid systems are uniquely positioned to balance growing global energy needs with a smaller environmental footprint.
This project has been made possible thanks to a collaboration between Enery and the Three Seas Initiative Investment Fund. This ambitious venture is supported by a €460 million ($534.1 million) project finance loan agreement. Eight commercial banks have come together in a syndicate to provide the cash for the project. While ongoing development of the project received solid financial backing from the loan agreement led by UniCredit.
Throughout construction, the Ogrezeni project will bring green jobs and vibrancy to the local economy while helping to increase renewable energy generation. At peak construction, more than 350 people are expected to be employed at the site. This will in turn create a market for the local services, igniting the community development engine.
Enery co-founders Richard König and Lukas Nemec expressed their commitment to the project, stating, “With Ogrezeni, we are taking a major step forward in delivering large-scale renewables that create long-term value not only for our partners but for local communities and the Romanian energy system as a whole.”
They further emphasized the project’s significance, saying, “This project reflects our strategy of combining robust development and execution capabilities with deep local participation.”
