Grenergy Expands Its Presence with Major Storage Projects in Poland

Grenergy, a Spanish independent power producer founded in 2007, has been rapidly growing its renewable energy pipeline. The company has recently won capacity contracts for five separate independent storage projects across Poland. Together, these initiatives will provide storage capacity of 2.1 gigawatt-hours (GWh). In addition, they’re meant to reinforce the Polish electricity network in periods of increasing undercapacity. Collectively kicking off the projects, which small-scale renewable energy projects — (Fred, George, Lucius, Hagrid and Harry) — will deliver a whopping 534 megawatts (MW) of clean power collectively. They were slated to begin service as soon as 2028.

Grenergy develops their assets in Europe, North America and Latin America. The American Solar Energy Society, for instance, has deeply rooted itself in this idea. The company further boasts a worldwide portfolio that is over 75 GWh of storage capacity. On top of that, it has more than 12 GW of solar power in the pipeline. Together with these new projects in Poland, Grenergy hopes to continue solidifying its presence in the European market.

Grenergy will receive a guaranteed, indexed annual revenue of 465.02 zlotys (about $128.66) per kilowatt. This same compensation will last for a much longer time—17 years—under the capacity contracts. This deal guarantees an economic bottom line of more than €132 million (more than $153.85 million) for the company. Combined, these financial provisions underscore Grenergy’s confidence in sustainable energy solutions while backing Poland’s current and future energy infrastructure.

Grenergy recently closed other contracts on the end customer and construction company side. The Polish Government subsidized them to the tune of 34 million zlotys (€8 million) for four of their smaller stand-alone projects, which will provide a combined new capacity of 136 megawatt-hours. This backing is a huge boost for the government’s promise to kickstart renewable energy efforts in the country.

Grenergy’s strategic initiatives extend beyond Poland. In September 2024, the company announced the $128 million acquisition of a 1 GW solar portfolio in Chile. No wonder Grenergy is quickly pushing its Greenbox platform to market. This Europe’s largest stand-alone storage initiative has a solid pipeline of 31 GWh. Connecting investors and innovators, this platform will be a key driver for improving energy storage solutions across the continent.

The company closed a senior non-recourse financing agreement of €98.8 million for the Ayora solar facility just recently. These types of financial moves show Grenergy’s forward-thinking nature in locking in investments that will strengthen its renewable energy pipelines around the world.
