Aer Soléir Secures Financial Close for Major BESS Project in Italy

Aer Soléir, the pioneering renewable energy enterprise, has flown well above target and made a big splash. They have finally financed construction of their flagship battery energy storage system (BESS) project, Rondissone. This project, which entails an anticipated investment of €180 million, is a significant step forward for Italy’s renewable energy landscape.

During the first quarter of 2025, Aer Soléir won a 15-year capacity market contract with the Italian Government worth $5 million. This agreement is valued at €47,000 per megawatt (MW) annually. This specific contract is very key to this project. It guarantees a long-term, reliable revenue source to match that large capital outlay.

The Rondissone BESS project features a solid financing structure. For the enterprises, senior debt facilities will cover up to 80% of the total capital expenditure. These facilities are paid back on a 15-year amortization schedule. This model provides a self-sustaining repayment schedule that matches this project’s revenue generation with the time it takes to realize them.

Once finalized, the Rondissone facility will be the largest BESS installation yet being built in Italy. It’s this project that will do the most to enhance the nation’s energy capacity and stability. As the demand for renewable energy solutions continues to grow, its influence will be even more important.

In Q3 of 2025 Aer Soléir Project Company, Ltd. obtained a fixed toll agreement over the seven years for the BESS project. This contract was signed with EGO Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shell Italia. The goal of this partnership is to enhance the operational efficiency and economic viability of the facility.

“We are delighted to reach this closing milestone in collaboration with our banking partners,” said Manus O’Donnell, a representative from Aer Soléir. This statement highlights the team effort that has been key in making the elaborate project a success.

The Rondissone BESS project represents an important leap forward for Aer Soléir. It’s a powerful statement of Italy’s commitment to renewable energy projects and infrastructure development. As the country moves towards a more sustainable energy future, projects like Rondissone pave the way for technological advancements and increased energy independence.
