New Operating Theatre Enhances Patient Care and Efficiency

Construction on a £6.5 million robotic operating theatre has reached completion, marking a significant advancement in patient care at the facility. Anil Agarwal, a consultant surgeon who has been working on the project, said the new recovery area would mean… It will create a better patient care experience and improve patient throughput as well. The recently constructed extension is located one story above grade. It seamlessly connects our existing quad over the new gallery space, creating natural flow to our back of house operations.

Patients have begun to reap the rewards of the newly improved operating theatres. These new, improved facilities will make even the most complex surgeries more effective with an uptick in priority for patient recovery paths that are seamless, productive, and effective. “Far more meaningful changes would be required to effect positive changes in patient care,” Agarwal said.

“Patients are already benefitting from the new operating theatres and now patient care and flow will improve with the new recovery area.” – Anil Agarwal

The ambitious project was focused on making healthcare just a bit more like the real world, hopefully resulting in improved experiences and outcomes for patients. Beyond its holistic integration of cutting-edge technology and workflow improvements, the design stands to offer theatre staff an improved workplace setting.

Agarwal noted the advantages for clinicians and providers. The new facilities as dark and jarring as the old ones would allow them a more productive and safer working environment, he insisted.

Alison Coates, senior operations manager, was pleased with the way the project came together. She spoke to the difficulties encountered during construction and the way that the final product ended up exceeding everyone’s expectation.

“To say it was ambitious is an understatement.” – Alison Coates

This new robotic operating theatre is a great example of a leading edge approach to place-based healthcare. It has made such a difference, for both patients and staff! With these upgrades, the facility is set to provide surgical care that meets a new standard of excellence. Patients can expect timely and efficient treatment, while healthcare professionals will be better supported in their crucial work.
