Work on the new £6.5 million robotic operating theatre has now completed successfully. This milestone represents a new level of patient-centered care coming to the facility. The collaborative’s latest project centers on building a new floor—one level above ground, ideally. This modern upgrade will not only expand surgical capabilities, but ultimately transform the recovery experience for patients.
At the opening, senior operations manager Alison Coates talked about the scale of the project and how ambitious it was. The new section, in a dramatic move, bridges the gap over a courtyard, integrating seamlessly with older, adjacent buildings. Further, this cutting-edge design improves the theatre’s operational capacity. It’s one of the key ways that robotics improves the efficiency of surgical procedures.
The facility is already starting to experience great results from its new operating theatres and its positive impact on the patient experience. Anil Agarwal, consultant surgeon, added saying patients have started receiving the benefit of cutting-edge technology and better facilities. He emphasized the additional benefits that the new recovery area will bring, stating, “Patients are already benefitting from the new operating theatres and now patient care and flow will improve with the new recovery area.”
The new recovery area is yet to return to improving patient care as well as the flow of operations within the theatre. By providing a dedicated space for patients post-surgery, the facility aims to streamline processes and ensure that patients receive the attention they need during their recovery.
Agarwal pointed out that the improved facilities will help to provide better working conditions for theatre employees. It is hoped that this improvement will lead to increased job satisfaction and productivity among the healthcare workforce.
Agarwal said the new buildings will help to build a healthier workplace for arts workers. He noted just how important infrastructure can be in delivering the best, if not exceptional, healthcare.
