Amazon Expands Alexa’s Capabilities with New Integrations

Amazon announced on Thursday that its AI assistant, Alexa, will soon integrate with four popular services: Angi, Expedia, Square, and Yelp. When the 2026 expansion takes effect, it should dramatically change the user experience. Alexa will continue to guide users toward pet-friendly accommodations and more just a few of the amazing things in store.

This huge new development, though, was first reported by longtime TechCrunch real estate reporter Sarah Perez, who joined the blog in August of 2011. Her qualifications are steeped in technology journalism—having just spent over three years as Chief Editor at ReadWriteWeb. Perez’s career features deep experience in the IT sector—working in industries that include banking, retail, and software.

It’s a big deal from the announcement toward the users that constantly depend on Alexa for small, routine tasks. Combined with the new Alexa integrations, right now users can ask Alexa all kinds of informational questions. For instance, they would ask, “Show me pet-friendly hotels for this weekend in Chicago.” This is designed to make it easier and faster for travelers to book their accommodations and services through voice-first technology.

This integration is another sign of Amazon’s eagerness to expand its AI assistant’s capabilities. In addition, Alexa will be a more powerful assistant for users. By integrating services from Angi, Expedia, Square and Yelp, it will connect people with the information and services they need more conveniently.

In her analysis of this news, Sarah Perez made an excellent point about what these new integrations mean for expanding Alexa’s capabilities.

“Can you find me pet-friendly hotels for this weekend in Chicago?” – source is an example query.

Amazon is making some aggressive plays to improve Alexa’s capabilities. We’re gorilla excited to see how these new tools will increase user engagement and satisfaction! The integration with all the other major service providers could really put Alexa at the center of users’ daily lives.
