Hover Energy Celebrated for Excellence and Secures Major Project in Finland

Hover Energy has done innovative work in renewable energy. Due to this, the firm was thrilled to have earned 3 Power Technology Excellence Awards for 2025. This milestone highlights the company’s continued leadership in intelligent microgrids and distributed renewable energy networks. The awards follow as Hover Energy looks to bring a large shared energy storage farm in Haapajärvi, Finland, online by mid-2027.

The Haapajärvi facility will be a 125MW installation, built to provide the necessary flexibility for Fingrid’s reserve market. This innovative facility will help to smooth out peaks and valleys in energy production and consumption, preventing potential outages and maintaining a resilient, stable grid. The technology put into place at Haapajärvi will enable quick load balancing and help strengthen energy security throughout the area.

A Landmark Clean Energy Investment

This project is a major partnership between Hover Energy and NEPower, as both companies invest together in Finland’s energy infrastructure. Matti Vaattovaara, Hover Energy spokesperson added, “This partnership is a key milestone to prove the potential impact of the Renewable26 technology.

“We are pleased to partner with NEPower on this landmark clean energy investment that strengthens Finland’s energy system. Energy storage, power electronics, automation, and electrification are essential for maintaining grid stability and flexibility as the energy transition accelerates.”

The facility’s design includes state of the art technologies that not only improve cybersecurity, but offer new grid-forming capabilities. By enabling the greater integration of renewable resources, the Haapajärvi project supports Finland’s aggressive carbon neutrality goals.

Enhancing Grid Capabilities

The Haapajärvi facility provides a wealth of advantages. It will use parts from Hover Energy that will enhance neighborhood-level real-time visibility and control of the energy grid. These features enable predictive decision-making, fault detection, and performance optimization to name just a few capabilities. Alpiq has made reliability a top priority by utilizing these advanced technologies, which help monitor and maintain the facility’s peak operational efficiency.

Hitachi Energy announced it is investing more than $1 billion to expand its U.S. manufacturing capabilities for electrical grid infrastructure. This transformative investment could not have come at a better time for the company. This effort points towards the increasing appetite and demand for sophisticated, reliable advanced energy solutions that can help power a rapidly transforming global energy economy.

Future of Energy in Finland

As commissioning date draws near, advocates hope and believe that the Haapajärvi facility will make waves far beyond community lines and change the face of Finland’s energy future. The project will create a much more reliable trip. It will help create new, sustainable energy practices that can serve as a model for the entire world.

On the islands, this facility will integrate smart microgrids with distributed, renewables. Ultimately, it will set a precedent for future projects in Europe and beyond. The Haapajärvi project will promote an even greater efficiency in energy management. This new initiative is an important step in Finland’s increased efforts to realize its energy security and sustainability ambitions.
