Nexus Venture Partners Launches $700 Million Fund with Focus on AI and India Startups

Delaware-headquartered Nexus Venture Partners has held the first close of its eighth fund at $700 million. Relatedly, this fund matches the size of its predecessor. Specifically, it’ll bet on startups using artificial intelligence (AI) as well as companies building for India – especially within the consumer, fintech and digital infrastructure spaces. Since opening its doors in 2006, Nexus has established a valued reputation in the VC industry. It currently has a remarkable $3.2 billion in total capital under management over its multiple funds.

Nexus Venture Partners operates with a unique model that integrates teams in both the U.S. and India, facilitating a seamless flow of ideas and investment opportunities across borders. The firm has a varied LP base, with investors in North America, Europe and Asia. These areas are limited primarily to the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Japan. This deep and diverse ecosystem strengthens Nexus’s capacity to find the most promising startups that meet today’s complex, global market demands.

The firm has extensive experience, with over 130 companies funded since its founding. Nexus’ track record is particularly impressive with over 30 exits, some notable initial public offerings (IPOs) including Justdial and Persistent Systems. This track record is amplified by the firm’s commitment to grow and develop early-stage companies into highly successful businesses. Nexus has a history of raising funds every 2.5 to 3 years. They concentrate on building companies from the earliest stages through the seed and Series A rounds.

Nexus usually starts its investments with checks of a few hundred thousand dollars up to about $1 million. This strategy positions the firm to assist early-stage companies when they need it most, during pivotal growth stages. In the U.S., other notable portfolio companies include Postman, Apollo, MinIO, Giga, and Firecrawl. At the same time, the tech giant is pouring billions of dollars into India. These investments break into global markets for consumer goods, fintech solutions, logistics, and digital infrastructure.

Nexus is acutely aware of AI’s developing significance in the current market. It seeks to capitalise on this growing trend while remaining focused and committed to strengthening its primary industries back home in India. According to Jishnu Bhattacharjee, a co-founder of Nexus Venture Partners, AI is a must-have for winning investments today.

“AI is a huge inflection point, and we are anchoring on that,” – Jishnu Bhattacharjee

He mentioned that a lot of the innovations happening in the AI space are focused on making services better for everyone.

“But we are also seeing that many of these AI innovations are actually getting used to serve the masses better.” – Jishnu Bhattacharjee

Nexus is clearly bullish on the prospect for growth in the Indian market. Located in one of the hottest ecosystems in the world, Silicon Valley, India’s entrepreneurial base has grown tremendously over the last decade. The firm’s continuous support for early-stage ventures highlights its mission to empower entrepreneurs who are transforming industries and creating value for consumers.

Another India-focused fund, Nexus Venture Partners, is opening a new round of funding. The firm prides itself on building innovation in lockstep with its investment philosophy. The dual focus on AI and India-centric startups positions the firm to harness emerging trends while supporting local entrepreneurs in their quest for growth and success.
