Vikram Solar, a leading player in the Indian solar energy sector, has officially commissioned a new manufacturing facility in Vallam, Tamil Nadu. This smart play greatly increases the company’s leading global advanced module manufacturing capacity by a whopping 5 gigawatts (GW). Combined with these older deployments, the total manufacturing capacity is now up to 9.5 GW! The new plant is a promising sign that the tides might be turning for India’s clean energy prospects. It is poised to supercharge the country’s solar manufacturing capacity.
The Vallam facility is founded on cutting-edge TOPCon technology, which delivers greater efficiency and performance in solar modules. It’s built to easily fit multiple formats such as M10, G12, and G12R. Covering an area of 27,000 square meters, this brand-new, highly automated facility is a big step forward in production capacities.
Enhancing India’s Clean Energy Sector
The commissioning of the Vallam facility represents an important technological advancement for India’s rapidly growing clean energy sector. Vikram Solar is automating the plant to a large degree. This project is intended to dramatically improve precision, throughput, and process reliability in post-print manufacturing. The Vallam facility produced modules that go to a wide range of different customers. These ranges extend across utility-scale developers, commercial and industrial clients as well as distributed generation projects from coast to coast.
Gyanesh Chaudhary, chair and managing director of Vikram Solar, ruminating on the significance of this new milestone. It’s a great moment for the company and for India’s solar manufacturing story.
“As we complete over 20 years in this industry, this facility reflects our intent to shape what comes next: advanced manufacturing, automation-led quality, and technology platforms that become new benchmarks for the sector. Vallam strengthens India’s value chain, and it reinforces our confidence that Indian clean tech can lead globally, not just participate.” – Gyanesh Chaudhary, Vikram Solar chair and managing director
Supporting Futureproof Technology
Vallam facility’s creation is well-timed with Vikram Solar’s dedication to futureproof technology in the rapidly evolving renewable energy space. This investment deepens the company’s innovation IQ, expanding upon its state-of-the-art production capabilities even further while showcasing its long-standing commitment to innovation. The facility follows the recent foundation ceremony for the upcoming Gangaikondan plant, indicating Vikram Solar’s strategic growth trajectory in solar manufacturing.
The Vallam facility also highlights Vikram Solar’s long-time presence in Tamil Nadu, especially Oragadam. This expansion is a strong statement of the company’s intention to become global leader in advanced solar R&D and manufacturing. It further reinforces its commitment to stand by India’s transition to sustainable energy solutions.
Strategic Distribution Across India
And with its production capacity now 5X greater, Vikram Solar is poised to continue expanding the deployment of its innovative solar modules across India. This unique distribution strategy is designed to meet the increasing demand for clean energy solutions in public, private, and nonprofit sectors. Vikram Solar is committed to continuously improving its manufacturing infrastructure and harnessing differentiating technology. This further cements the company’s position as a major player in the Indian solar market.
