U.S. Government Gains Access to Advanced AI Services at Unprecedented Prices

Through this initiative, Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI are making a major move to strengthen AI talent within federal agencies. In addition, they are now dongling the U.S. government special access to their enterprise-tier AI services at truly advantageous rates. Anthropic’s Claude generative AI chatbot will set you back only $1. At the same time, Google is launching its own service, “Google for Government,” at a jaw-droppingly low 47 cents in the first year. At the same time, OpenAI is making the enterprise tier of ChatGPT available for just $1 per year.

These new developments couldn’t come at a more important time as the U.S. government looks to strengthen its own technological backbone. Here’s the take from TechCrunch covering the announcements. Becca, a senior investigative writer at the outlet, mentioned how these deals can be used to fundamentally upend federal operations.

In addition to Oracle, Amazon Web Services (AWS) is making a significant investment to improve AI tools and services available for government agencies. Combined with previous investments, this investment will bring 1.3 gigawatts of compute power to bear. That includes making AWS products such as Amazon SageMaker AI easier to use, model customization, Amazon Bedrock, and Anthropic’s Claude chatbot more accessible.

Expanding AWS’s Influence

Since 2011, AWS has sharply coordinated to build cloud infrastructure for the U.S. government. As many of you know, they’ve done some truly great work in this regard. In 2014, they created AWS Top Secret-East, the first air-gapped commercial cloud ever accredited for use with classified workloads. That’s the vision behind a new infrastructure investment to help drive even more federal agencies to the cutting edge of leveraging supercomputing.

The convergence of these tech giants—Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI—providing low-cost AI services to the U.S. government represents a pivotal shift in how federal agencies can utilize advanced technologies. Armed with these resources, agencies should be able to work more efficiently and enhance their operational capabilities to truly make significant improvements.

“Our investment in purpose-built government AI and cloud infrastructure will fundamentally transform how federal agencies leverage supercomputing.”

The federal government technology landscape is changing quickly. For the uninitiated, TechCrunch Disrupt San Francisco, October 13-15, 2026 will be one of the most thought-provoking conversations ever on how we fold AI into the public service.

“We’re giving agencies expanded access to advanced AI capabilities that will enable them to accelerate critical missions from cybersecurity to drug discovery. This investment removes the technology barriers that have held government back and further positions America to lead in the AI era.”
